The Global War on Brittany

The consequences of war are undoubtedly "bad" upon initial glance, but can a war be good for the Soldiers fighting even when not defending their own lands?

Wars can generate great outcomes like increased economic growth, improvement of civil liberties and a patriotic sense of unity. These are splendors our most recent overseas conflict, the Global War on Terrorism, has failed to provide.

Not all outcomes are bad though; take for example the knee-jerk reaction of our bipartisan legislative body to tend to the needs of America’s fighting force with pro-veteran legislation (fueled by the media).

The U.S. media was in a real debacle - print stories of Soldier’s care or cover Brittany’s bimbo behavior; what’s a media-mogul to do? Logically they did both!

Department of Defense couldn’t keep up with the barrage of congressional inquiries being fueled by the Washington Post. Heartbreaking post-war Stories were coming in faster than sex videos of celebrities - the media finally had a REAL story to cover! The press inadvertently combined the two topics with a title that read, "Brittany Suffering From PTSD After Messy Separation".

But America, specifically Congress, had a plan - they would respond unified to every concern raised by the beltway media giant. Generals began to lose commands (and be reassigned with no reprimand) and Veterans Affairs officials quietly retired in the shadows of the camera flashes. Hell, even the Secretary of Defense decided he was ready to take on something a bit less challenging.

America may have failed its troops but there is a brighter side to this story. Terror was losing the war; 5 to 3 in the 3rd quarter. OK, so conflicts can’t be measured like a Sunday night football game; sitting around watching war correspondents in HD while enjoying beer and burgers just isn’t the same as watching the Redskins get handed a ass kicking.

Wouldn’t it be great though if two opposing nations would settle disputes this way? Flip a coin and winner chooses a sporting event (other than war) to resolve its differences. America would be great, just so long as less popular sporting events weren't chosen; like I don't know....Soccer.

But alas war can’t be settled or stopped in such an effortless manner. Ask the Lakota Tribe who just recently withdrew from their treaty and denounced their US Citizenship. Don’t worry Uncle Sam isn’t too concerned. Not having to pay welfare benefits to the tribe is a tax SAVINGS.

Where was I going with this - oh yes - war. War, like I said earlier, has some positive benefits. The Global War on Terrorism has allowed the Department of Defense to review its strategic placement of forces, overall force structure and update and address outdated policies, archaic equipment, and the recruiting culture.

The Veterans Affairs Committee, Congress, and the Department of Defense are coming together collectively to provide a bipartisan (minus Iraq pull-out date markup) effort to create laws, regulations and policies to address the voice of the modern day Soldier.

I fear that one day (if not already) the US media will take total control of what our soft squishy brains are fed as to what is important and what IS news. This all would have been avoided had Brittany had decided on a pull-out time.
